La Fiesta Blend

La Fiesta is Elba’s latest coffee blend, making it her fourth Central American blend overall, and we’re really excited about this one!

We used the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Flavor Wheel as our guide when looking for the right words to describe this coffee. Whereas most of our coffees fall among the sweet and fruity section of the SCA’s flavor wheel, the Fiesta blend is decidedly different. We noted a nutty flavor and aftertaste, with hints of Hazelnut.

Elba’s flavor description mentions “Spicy Aroma”. What is a spicy aroma? The SCA describes a “savory, brown aromatic, associated with spices such as cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, hazelnut, black pepper and allspice”

In simpler terms, I would characterize this blend overall as a ‘medium-coffee’, in the sense that the flavor is not strong like our Espresso blend or the Guatemalan beans, but it isn’t quite mellow like the Nicaraguan and El Salvadoran coffees we sell. La Fiesta has a soothing body (mouthfeel) with an earthy or nutty aftertaste.

Rest assured, this blend, along with all our coffees, are 100% Arabica… no additives or artificial flavorings of any kind. So in order to get an exciting new flavor, Elba spent a lot of time experimenting with different origin beans and various roast levels. After many cupping sessions over a period of months, Elba found the coffee she wanted. Enjoy La Fiesta!
